The Salvation Army’s “Others Award” is the organization’s highest honor, recognizing individuals, families or organizations for their extraordinary spirit of service to others. It is rooted in the history of The Salvation Army, going back to the 1900s when General William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army sent a one-word telegram: “Others”.
Hansen Plastics Corporation (HPC) was extremely honored to be the recipient of the “Others Award” for the Elgin Community Corps for 2023.
In order to be nominated for the “Others Award” an individual or group must demonstrate dedication to The Salvation Army’s goals of service to humanity, make outstanding contributions to the community though donations of time, expertise and energy and have shown exceptional humanitarian efforts within the community.
HPC has been heavily involved with the Salvation Army through their HPC Cares committee since 2019. HPC’s service through The Salvation Army includes “ringing the bell” every year during the holiday season, as well as donations to coat closets, food drives and home goods collections. In addition to their work with The Salvation Army, through HPC, it’s employee owners as well as the company have donated time and money to Elgin National Little League, PADS of Elgin, South Elgin Food Pantry, Kane County Senior Council, The Superhero Center for Autism and the LBGTQ+ Center at the Kenneth Young, and more.
“This award is really a testament to the culture at Hansen Plastics,” says Corrie, one of HPC’s employee-owners who coordinates efforts between The Salvation Army and HPC. “All our employee-owners are committed to making this world a better place through serving others. We are very fortunate to work for a company that supports and encourages giving back to the community.”
