Hansen Plastics Corporation prides itself on giving back to the communities in which their employee owners live and work. HPC also promotes a culture of acceptance and encourages employee owners to suggest charities to which HPC’s Employee Engagement and HPC Cares committees should focus their attention.
One of HPCs employee owners, Glenn, has a daughter with autism. Her name is Emma. For Autism Awareness month in April, Glenn was gracious enough to share with his fellow HPC employee owners his family’s autism journey. He educated HPC’s employee owners about autism, how it may present and even showed a video of how the world is from the perspective of a child with autism.
Emma has been attending a facility called The Superhero Center for Autism for a few years now. The Superhero Center for Autism is a judgement-free community center open to all children with special needs and their families at no cost. The Superhero Center has open gym times for children with special needs to have a safe place to play, with some equipment geared towards those with sensory issues. The Center hosts many activities and events, ranging from fundraising events to parent support groups to sibling events. The Center is even available to rent for parties that would need to accommodate a child with special needs.
All of the services offered by The Superhero Center for Autism are free. The Center itself is completely run by volunteers and all money they receive is from gracious donors to the center.
To raise funds for The Superhero Center for Autism, HPC sold autism themed t-shirts and held a 50/50 raffle. The winner of the 50/50 raffle chose to donate their winnings back to The Superhero Center for Autism.
“The funds raised by the employee owners of HPC will make a tremendous impact in the lives of our Superheroes and their families”, said Glenn. “Donations such as this ensure we are able to meet the needs of our community by providing a safe and inclusive environment for those impacted by autism. On behalf of the Superhero Center for Autism, we are very grateful.”
On May 17th, members of the Employee Engagement / HPC Cares committees took a trip out to The Superhero Center for Autism to see the facility and present the donation check for over $1,700!
The employee owners of HPC are so grateful they are given the opportunity to donate to causes and organizations that they hold dear and are looking forward to their next charity endeavor.
